
Emily Amirault
Emily Amirault is a Senior Resort Planner and Managing Partner at Ecosign. Originally from Nanaimo, British Columbia, Emily holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Guelph, and a Certificate in Urban Design from Simon Fraser University.
Since joining Ecosign’s base area planning department in 2006, Emily has focused on projects located in Western Canada, Scandinavia, Japan and Central Asia and has developed an in-depth understanding of the mountain tourism markets in each of these regions. In addition to developing a specialization in base area planning for mountain resorts, Emily has contributed to competitive facility master plans for Olympics Games and Universiade’s, urban gondola master plans, large scale regional tourism studies and summer activity master plans with no ski component. She thrives in the process of finding elegant solutions to complex problems for challenging sites.
Emily played a key role in base area planning for Ruka Resort in Finland and Niseko Hanazono in Japan, two of Ecosign’s legacy projects that have become the most successful mountain resorts in their respective regions. Emily has worked with many ski areas in BC and Alberta including Revelstoke, Kimberley, Marmot Basin, Sun Peaks, Fernie and Nakiska. Currently, she is working with the Spuzzum Nation on the approval process for BC’s first greenfield, indigenous led all season mountain resort in southwestern BC.
Emily has applied her expertise as a volunteer with Whistler Off Road Cycling Association as the Director of Planning from 2012 – 2015, with the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) on the Design Advisory Board from 2008 – 2011, and on the RMOW’s Strategic Planning Committee 2019 - 2024. Emily’s passion for mountain recreation extends into her personal life and when she’s not in the office she can be found skiing or biking in the mountains at home in Whistler.
