Ecosign’s 2006 Stara Planina project envisions a ski resort with 30 lifts and a daily skier capacity of 26,840. The design includes four base areas, with the pedestrian-friendly Jabučko Ravniŝte village offering 13,502 public beds, blending aesthetics with the natural landscape.
The Stara Planina study area is a mountain area extending along the Serbian-Bulgarian Border over the territories of the municipalities of Knjaževac, Pirot and Dimitrovgrad. In 2006, Ecosign prepared both mountain and village studies of the area; after client review, a preferred concept was agreed upon. The mountain plan at build-out consists of 30 lifts with a total skier carrying capacity of 26,840 per day.
There are four main base areas proposed for development at Stara Planina: the Golema Base, Zubska Base, Leskova Base and the Jabučko Ravniŝte Base. Two of these proposed base areas would be for day skier parking while the other two base areas would be for accommodation and a commercial centre.
The main village, Jabučko Ravniŝte, has a total building footprint of 101,650 square metres and a gross floor area of 295,333 square metres. The proposed design features a pedestrian village with commercial and skier services on the ground floor with accommodation space above. The village combines creative building solutions responsive to slope gradients with aesthetic value to ensure the structures fit into the natural landscape. Once complete, Jabučko Ravniŝte will provide 3,665 units accommodating 13,502 public beds, generating 8,750 skiers.
In 2013, Ecosign prepared a detailed Master Plan for the first step of development which included a skier service building and multi-functional recreation centre.
