Ecosign's Master Plan for South Britannia envisions a vibrant, eco-conscious community centered around outdoor adventure. Highlights include a world-class surf park, housing, and amenities like parks, trails, shops, and small-scale tourism.
The vision for South Britannia is for a complete, outdoor adventure-focused community on the Howe Sound fjord. Located 50 kilometres north of Vancouver, Canada, Ecosign’s resort master plan proposes a walkable, close-to-nature community featuring residences, a world-class surf park, shops and services, small-scale tourism accommodation, and parks and trails for all to enjoy.
The heart of the Master Plan is the large surf park powered by Wavegarden technology which will provide up to 1,000 waves per hour. The world-class, state-of-the-art facility will offer surfing on real ocean-type waves suitable for all ages and abilities and open to residents and visitors. An adjacent adventure park includes a bike pump-track, rock-climbing wall, playground, skate park, and outdoor field for recreation and events.
The community’s compact mix of multi-family housing (townhomes, row houses, and low-rise apartments) will help increase housing stock and affordability in the Sea to Sky Corridor. 1,050 homes are proposed, including 150 purpose-built rentals, 50 of which will be at below market rates. The town centre – an animated, walkable gathering place near the waterfront – will include shops, restaurants, services, small-scale tourism accommodation such as cabins, glamping sites and a lodge.
As of December 2023, the project has received approval from the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District and if all goes as planned, early construction works with site preparation could begin in Spring 2025, which would lead to the completion and opening of the surf park sometime in 2027.
