Ecosign was retained by the Municipalities of Mestia, Georgia, to prepare a Feasibility Study and Regional Tourism Vision Master Plan for an area of 3,770 km² within the Georgian Caucasus Mountains.

Phase 1 of the study prepared a Technical Assessment of the natural terrain of the entire municipality as it related to alpine skiing and snowboarding. Phase 1 identified and analyzed potential base lands for parking, skier services, accommodation, recreational activities, and all potential mountain resort sites with a capacity of more than 5,000 skiers per day.

As a result of the findings from the Technical Assessment, Development Concepts for the preferred study area sites (Ushguli, Tetnuldi, Mestia-Atsvali, Ushba Ridge and Glacier and Etseri) were prepared.

The Resort Master Plan included resort concepts illustrating lifts, pistes, and the land required for base facilities and accommodation. An overall development program documenting the daily capacity of each area was prepared, outlining the number of tourist beds, parking and potential winter recreational facilities. The top-ranking site (Esteri) would have the potential of 11,563 skiers per day at buildout and could accommodate a village with 8,676 beds.
