Ecosign led a comprehensive study to assess the feasibility of developing a world-class ski resort in Kok Zhailau, Kazakhstan. Collaborating with top firms, we designed a resort master plan featuring 16 lifts, 77 ski slopes, and accommodations for 5,736 guests.

In 2012, Ecosign conducted a technical, market and economic study to determine the feasibility of developing a world-class ski resort in Kok Zhailau, Kazakhstan. Working alongside sub-contractors Horwath, ARUP, Engineerisk, CaspiEcology and KPMG, Ecosign undertook a Technical Assessment and Economic Justification of the study area, 10 km from Almaty (population 2.2 million). The project deliverables were a technical, market and economic study to determine the feasibility of developing a world-class ski resort in the area.

The Kok Zhailau Resort Area Master Plan includes 16 lifts, 77 prepared ski slopes with a defined total slope length of 63 km, and a ski area capacity of 10,150 day skiers. A detailed Master Plan for a resort village at the top of Kok Zhailau Creek (2,200 m above sea level) includes 3,956 beds intended for nightly rental and another 1,212 beds in the apartment zone directly below the village. The Master Plan proposes a total of 5,736 beds, the majority of which are short-term accommodation. 

Kok Zhailau Mountain Resort is a “break-through” project in Kazakhstan, integrally and intelligently planned according to leading international planning and development standards. Kok Zhailau Mountain Resort’s vision is to become the leading destination mountain resort in the region, and by extension the country.
