Crystal Mountain USA
Crystal Mountain is a family-owned, four-season resort located in northwest Lower Michigan near Thompsonville, approximately 45 km southwest of Traverse City. Since opening in 1956, the resort has evolved into one of Michigan's leading destination resorts, offering 58 ski runs serviced by eight lifts across approximately 40 hectares of skiable terrain.
Crystal Mountain Resort has expanded beyond its winter operations to become a year-round destination, featuring extensive accommodation offerings, two championship golf courses, a LEED-certified spa, and a wide range of recreational activities. Its proximity to both Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore contributes to its strong regional appeal and year-round visitation.
In 2025, Ecosign was retained by Crystal Mountain to undertake ski area and base area planning initiatives aimed at supporting the resort's long-term growth. The first phase of work included technical land suitability assessments to identify future development opportunities, as well as market feasibility analyses for potential new programs and amenities.
Building on these investigations, Ecosign developed and presented a preferred resort master plan concept that establishes a framework for future planning, investment, and development at Crystal Mountain.
