Sierra Nevada, Spain
1996 World Alpine Skiing Championships

Ecosign was responsible for the overall master plan for the re-development of the Sierra Nevada resort in 1990 for the FIS World Alpine Skiing Championships held in 1996. The resort area master plan included design of the ski area improvements and competition venues and a new village center on top of a 4 level parking garage with a capacity for 3,000 cars as well as renovation of the existing urban areas. Ecosign was called upon again the 2003 to update the Sierra Nevada Master Plan including a new 2,800 bed pedestrian village. With buildout in the existing village of another 3,300 beds there would be an increase from 24,700 to 30,800 beds. This plan also proposes to double the amount of day visitor parking and would increase the comfortable carrying capacity of the ski area from 16,900 to 27,900 skiers per day.
