Winter Park USA

Ecosign has been responsible for master planning at Winter Park, Colorado, since 2001. In 2017, we prepared a 10-year development plan that describes the long-term vision for the ski area.
Ecosign’s work has informed the development of Winter Park Resort in Colorado since 2001, working closely with Intrawest to create and submit a Master Plan for the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) approval. The comprehensive analysis evaluated existing ski facilities, accommodation capacity, and terrain within the Special Use Permit, along with the previously approved 1985 Master Plan.
A significant revelation from Ecosign’s analysis indicated that the proposed Vasquez day skier base area would not be a viable investment due to its remote location and low projected use. Instead, the focus shifted to enhancing the Winter Park base area by improving parking and transit options, as well as proposing a gondola connection between the town and ski area. Ecosign’s initial Master Plan was finalized in 2004, leading to several key projects, including the installation of the Panoramic lift and various trail improvements to enhance skier flow and capacity.
In 2015, Ecosign updated the Master Plan to reflect new technologies and operational needs, better access and circulation around the mountain, and the development of a comprehensive Learning Area. The updated vision has been retained for internal planning and has informed subsequent submissions to the USFS, ensuring Winter Park continues to evolve as a premier ski destination.
