For nearly two decades, Ecosign has aided in planning a new resort village at Hemesdal, Norway, to enhance visitor capacity. Our work has been supported by detailed 3D models showcasing the development's design and layout.

Hemsedal is the second largest ski area in Norway, featuring 44.1 km of slopes and 18 lifts. Ecosign has been assisting Hemsedal Skisenter in the planning and approval process for its resort village base since 1995. The most recent village plans we prepared are based on approved zoning plans for a new village with approximately 2,900 warm beds. The base area already contained 1,000 warm beds, a number of private cabins, and drive-in day skiers from 10,000 bed units within a 20 km distance to the ski area base. Hemsedal urgently needed more warm beds in the base area to increase weekday skiers and visitors, so Ecosign’s village plans and volumetrics were the basis for the final building plans to be prepared by architectural firms.

Ecosign prepared individual 3D building envelopes to demonstrate the location of the commercial, conference, recreation, and accommodation space. The 3D modeling of the village in its entirety illustrated the massing of the buildings at the base area.

In December of 2008, the Hemsedal Alpin Lodge was completed using the footprint from the Ecosign Master Plan. The Alpin Lodge has a mix of hotel space, apartments, a supermarket, restaurant, bar, retail and rentals.
