The Falls Creek Alpine Resort in Victoria, Australia, plans a transformation to enhance skier capacity. A new base will accommodate 1,050 cars and 25 buses, while redeveloping the village area adds 200 condotel units, boosting recreational services and accommodations.
In 2007, Ecosign completed its Falls Creek Ski Fields Master Plan which includes 14 aerial lifts and 7 surface beginner lifts providing skiing for approximately 10,800 day skiers.
A major feature of the Master Plan is the creation of a new day skier base at the southeast end of the resort.
It is apparent that the main limiting factor to capacity at Falls Creek is the capacity of the existing village base area. The steepness of terrain makes increasing day skier capacity on the village side of the mountain impractical. The new day skier staging area includes parking for 1,050 cars and 25 buses on a surface parking lot.
The existing village area would be re-developed to include six condotel style buildings with commercial, recreation and skier service space on the ground floor and two single-story stand-alone retail buildings. The six condotel buildings contain approximately 200 units of accommodation and 920 beds.
