Ecosign has contributed to the evolution of Canada Olympic Park's transformation from a 1988 Winter Olympics site into a hub for winter sports and recreation. Our ongoing work enhances both public enjoyment and elite athlete development, ensuring its world-class legacy.
Ecosign has played a key role in the development and ongoing evolution of Canada Olympic Park (COP) in Calgary, Alberta, working in collaboration with WinSport, formerly the Canada Olympic Development Association (CODA). Initially developed for the 1988 Olympic Winter Games, the site has since become a hub for winter sports, recreation, and athlete development.
Since 2001, Ecosign has contributed to the redevelopment and master planning of COP’s ski areas; expansion of mountain biking and snow tubing facilities; detailed site planning for both public recreation and elite training areas; and a redevelopment plan for the Frank King Day Lodge.
Planning work for the Frank King Day Lodge Renovation was carried out over two contracts in 2017 and 2021. Ecosign provided preliminary space use and circulation analysis of the existing day lodge (a space that once served as the media centre for the 1988 Olympic Winter Games) and prepared a renovation concept that included re-allocation of space and building expansion.
The first phase of the day lodge renovation project involved preparing a detailed inventory of the buildings services and assessing their capacity and visitor flow. Two scenarios were developed to evaluate a full redevelopment of the day lodge or a partial renovation and re-allocation of space. In 2021, Ecosign prepared a more detailed report and redevelopment concept and worked as part of a team that included architects and quantity surveyors on the preferred plan. Ecosign’s Renovation Master Plan provided a foundation for the architectural design process completed by GGA Architecture. Renovations began in 2024 and the reimagined building had a soft opening early December 2025; the full project is scheduled to be completed in 2026.
As part of its long-term involvement, Ecosign has continually evaluated COP’s terrain and infrastructure to support its legacy as a premier sports facility, maintaining its world-class status while generating revenue to sustain its operations and goals for community and elite sports development. Together, this long-standing collaboration underscores Ecosign’s commitment to shaping Canada Olympic Park as a resilient, forward-looking destination that honors its Olympic legacy while supporting sustainable recreation, high-performance sport, and community use for generations to come.
