In 1989, Ecosign developed a Resort Area Master Plan for Laax and Flims, Switzerland, commissioned by Bergbahnen Crap Sogn Gion’s CEO. The plan recommended infrastructure upgrades and a pedestrian-oriented village to accommodate 41,320 skiers and boost tourism.
Commissioned by Mr. Reto Gurtner, President and CEO of Bergbahnen Crap Sogn Gion, Ecosign prepared the first comprehensive Resort Area Master Plan for the classic alpine villages situated in Switzerland's Canton of Graubünden.
Ecosign's study of 120 km2 determined that the Laax-Flims mountain areas could accommodate up to 41,320 skiers per day, but only if substantial improvements were made to existing accommodation and transportation infrastructures in the nearby villages. We also proposed the construction of a pedestrian-oriented village comprised of 686 new tourist beds for overnight accommodation, commercial space, meeting space, underground parking stalls, and a golf course.
The conceptual golf course routing plans in Graubunden provided two designs: we designed all 18 holes in one community, and then another plan with 18 holes in the adjacent community. In the end, the client decided to put nine holes in each community to share the new investments. The grand opening of the golf course was held in September of 2008.
