Ecosign’s work with Canyon Ski Resort began in 2016 as part of a major development program leading up to the 2019 Canada Winter Games. Working closely with the City of Red Deer, Canyon Resort and project stakeholders, Ecosign helped plan improvements that would support the successful hosting of national-level competition while creating a lasting legacy for winter sport in Central Alberta.

Construction was completed in advance of the 2019 Canada Winter Games, and the enhanced facilities continue to serve athletes and the broader community. Today, Canyon Resort is the primary winter training centre for the Central Alberta Freestyle Ski Club, supporting the development of future generations of skiers.

Building on this success, Ecosign was retained in 2021 to prepare a comprehensive Summer Recreation Master Plan to transform Canyon Resort into a true four-season destination. The plan identified a diverse range of attractions and activities, including the Canyon Coaster alpine coaster (now in operation), as well as a net park, aerial ropes course, zip line, Crystal Canyon Mining attraction, summer tubing, bungee trampoline, mini golf, group event facilities, and wedding venues. The Master Plan established a framework for expanding recreational opportunities while strengthening the resort’s appeal to families, visitors, and local residents.

As interest in year-round tourism continued to grow, Ecosign was then requested to develop a concept for a new campground featuring 202 RV sites, 70 tent sites, central washroom and shower facilities, green park space, parking, and supporting service infrastructure. Phase 1 of the project, approved by Red Deer County in June 2021, included 100 RV sites and 53 tent sites, laying the foundation for future expansion and enhanced visitor experiences.
