In 2003, Ecosign carried out a Technical Feasibility study that recommended the connection of the three existing ski areas of Engelberg-Titlis and Melchsee-Frutt in Obwalden, and Hasliberg in the Berner Highlands. This merge resulted in the formation of one of the largest ski circuses in the Alps, now known as the Schnee Paradies Hasliberg-Titlis Connection, covering over 210 kms of ski trails.
In the study, Ecosign recommended that the four companies of Bergbahnen Engleberg-Trübsee Titlis AG, Sportbahnen Melchsee-Frutt, Sportbahnen Hasliberg-Käserstatt AG, and Meiringen-Hasliberg-Bahnen AG connect their ski areas together using chair lifts via eight new chair lifts, one tramway, and investments totaling SFr 59 million. The ski areas of Melschsee-Frutt and Meiringen Hasliberg would also require the building of a tramway to compensate for extremely steep terrain separating the two ski zones. Ecosign believed that this connection could be completed in a 7 to 10-year period and that all the companies involved would profit from this arrangement. To date this project has not been realized.
