Luosto, Finland
The Luosto Ski Area is located
approximately 950 kilometers north of Helsinki, Finland, and 53 kilometers
above the Arctic Circle. Luosto operates 3 ski lifts, including 2
T-Bar surface lifts and 1 Platter lift. Many other winter activities
take place in the Luosto region in addition to skiing, including
dog sleigh rides, reindeer-pulled sledge rides and snowmobile safaris.
Summer activities in the region include backpacking, mountain biking,
boating, fishing and other water activities.
Ecosign has prepared an
overall Base Area Land Use Plan, a Trails Plan, a Detailed Base Area
Illustrative Plan and Architectural Image Board. The Base Area Land
Use Plan encompasses the entire resort area base lands and illustrates
the relationship between existing land uses, amenities and development
areas, planned mountain expansion and the proposed layout of new
roads, parking, skier/safari staging areas, trails and commercial
nodes.
Luosto resort village and
base area have been designed to reflect local architectural styles
and building massing and a more indigenous overall site planning
approach. As a result, the resort village has an overall lower density
and significantly more open space than some other resort villages.
Proposed building heights are lower, footprints are smaller and site
coverage is reduced. The resort village has a more concentrated guest
service and commercial area situated in close proximity to the daylodge,
the main guest drop-off zone, skier plaza, gathering areas and cafes
along the snow-front.
