Beiarn Arena, Norway
In late August 2008, Ecosign Mountain Resort Planners was invited by Mr. Bengt Olsen to prepare a proposal for the preparation of a Technical Assessment of the potential Beiarn Arena Glacier ski area. Beiarn is situated just north of the Svartissen Glacier in northern Norway, approximately 60 kilometers "as the crow flies" southeast from Bodø, which lies just above the Arctic Circle. The Beiarn Arena is approximately 110 kilometers from Bodo Airport by car on Route 812. The Bodø region has approximately 50,000 inhabitants.
This report presents our overall proposal to prepare design concepts and a feasibility study for a potential ski resort at the Beiarn Glacier site. This report includes a Technical Assessment which documents the size, capacity and balance of the natural terrain for alpine skiing and snowboarding in the overall study area, which includes an area of 82 square kilometers. Ecosign then prepared two design concepts for the development of the study area. These concepts included the conceptual location of ski lifts, pistes, skier service facilities and lodges, cross country courses, snowmaking, night-lighting, parking, access roads, and base area land use for real estate development and resort village commercial and overnight facilities. Order of Magnitude capital cost estimates were then prepared for each concept to determine the concept's feasibility.
