Resort Designer
Ryley Thiessen is a graduate of Landscape Architecture
from the University of Guelph with 8 years experience in mountain resort
planning. Ryley
has been the lead designer of projects in many countries all over the
world including Canada, United States, Chile, Greece, Italy, China, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Georgia,
Russia, Serbia, France, Spain, Siberia and Austria. Projects vary from large scale Base Area Development Feasibility Studies
and Land Use Planning to detailed Resort Village Design and Recreational
Planning.
Project skills include client communication
and project coordination, site visits, site inventory and GPS locating,
design and programming of ski base area facilities. Mr. Thiessen’s
focus is on four-season mountain resort village design, golf course
routing, land use planning, layout of recreational facilities and trails,
vehicular circulation and parking and base staging areas and the design
development of base area real estate.
Ryley is an excellent problem solver and has
strong hand drawn skills and computer graphic abilities. Mr.
Thiessen is proficient in several programs such as AutoCAD, Adobe PhotoShop,
PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel, used for base area programming and
design presentation.
Mr. Thiessen is also a graduate from The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Edmonton, Alberta and was awarded with the Spirit of NAIT Alumni Award in 2009. He was recognized by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) for academic excellence and design in 2002 and by the Alberta Association of Landscape Architects (AALA) in 2000. Mr. Thiessen is also a volunteer member of WCSS, the Whistler Community Services Society that organized and helped to construct the community greenhouse project for local residents of Whistler and for the Food Bank. Living in Whistler, Mr. Thiessen enjoys snowboarding, mountain biking, hiking, beach volleyball and golf.
